Fillers in Northshore, MA

Dermal fillers are considered a minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. They can be performed in a medical office setting without the use of sedation/ pain medication on an outpatient basis.

Dermal fillers are structurally similar to collagen and as such act by adding volume to certain areas on the face. In the hands of an experienced practitioner, dermal fillers are injected to either decrease the appearance/depth of wrinkles or increase the size of certain facial structures.
There are many types and brands of filler available.

Semi-Permanent Fillers

Bellafill® is an FDA approved dermal filler for the correction of facial wrinkles known as nasolabial folds or smile lines. It is a unique, injectable collagen filler with microspheres that can instantly smooth facial wrinkles for beautiful, natural-looking results that last.

Bellafill® replaces lost volume in the skin below the wrinkle for results that are immediate and lasting. The injectable gel is comprised of 80% purified collagen and 20% PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) microspheres (add Lemperle reference).

Treatment with Bellafill® is very similar to treatment with conventional injectable fillers. The main difference is that Bellafill® requires a skin test in the United States to identify those patients who may have an allergy to bovine collagen or lidocaine. Lidocaine is provided to minimize discomfort during injection.

First Appointment: Your skin test. A small amount of purified bovine collagen gel is injected in the forearm to ensure you have no adverse reactions to bovine collagen and/or lidocaine.

Second appointment: Four weeks later, if there have been no adverse reactions to the initial test, you are ready for treatment. Upon injection, you will usually see immediate improvement to lines and wrinkles. The amount of Bellafill® required will depend on the severity of the lines/wrinkles being addressed.

Third appointment: A follow-up is suggested at 4-6 weeks. This also allows you to decide if you would like to further enhance or correct the area.

RADIESSE is a wrinkle filler used to plump the skin. RADIESSE is injected through a small needle and placed under the skin. Immediately, this filler works to add volume under the skin and over time, the benefits of RADIESSE continue by naturally stimulating your body’s own natural collagen. The natural results have been shown to last a year or more in many patients, making the treatment results both immediate and long lasting.

RADIESSE is comprised of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier. Once injected, it provides immediate volume and correction but continues to work by stimulating the body to produce its own natural collagen.

Over time, the gel is absorbed and the body metabolizes the CaHA microspheres leaving behind only your own natural collagen.

Temporary Fillers

BELOTERO BALANCE® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable filler that completely integrates into the skin tissue. While some fillers are designed to rebuild facial volume and structure, BELOTERO BALANCE specifically treats moderate-to-severe etched-in lines and wrinkles such as vertical lip lines above and around the lips. Treatment areas include nasolabial folds, vertical lip lines, corner lines, smile lines, and chin wrinkles.
JUVÉDERM® XC is a non-surgical filler used to instantly smooth out the lines along the sides of your nose and mouth. It can provide natural-looking results for up to a year with optimal treatment. JUVÉDERM® XC is made from a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA), manufactured using proprietary HYLACROSS™ technology.

JUVÉDERM® XC non-surgical filler is approved for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of skin) as well as in the lips.

JUVÉDERM® XC has been studied and proven safe and effective for all skin types.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC injectable gel, also a hyaluronic acid filler, is for deep injection in the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss in adults over the age of 21. This gives you an instant lift with natural looking results that can last up to two years with optimal treatment.
Restylane adds volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane can also add fullness and definition to lips in patients over 21 years, providing natural-looking results with just one treatment.

Restylane works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, Restylane is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid, and eventually breaks down naturally.

Just like Restylane, Restylane Silk is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid — a sugar that is naturally present in your skin.

Restylane Silk is designed specifically to provide natural-looking results in the lips and the area surrounding the mouth. That’s why it’s made of smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane products.

Restylane Silk’s unique particle gel formula, along with an ultrafine needle designed for improved accuracy, helps give you softer, more precise results — just what you need for a natural-looking smile.

In your consultation with Dr. Shanthala, she will discuss your specific needs and determine which filler(s) may be right for you.

I don’t usually write reviews but I just had to now. About 8 months ago, I got a facial filler done at a doctors office like I usually do a couple of times a year. This time though, something went terribly wrong. I’m not sure the what the medical term is for what happened to me, but it seems that the filler was injected into a blood vessel. What followed was horrible. Immediately, the left side of my face went numb and I developed a terrible infection that caused a horrible lesion, and my face to swell and look deformed. I temporarily lost my eye sight in my left eye and was in a lot of pain. I was scared and confused and seeked some answers or even help from the doctor that performed the treatment. To make a long story short, I called the office 5 times before the doctor called me back, only to tell me that I’ll be fine and to take some Advil. After 8 months, I still have numbness in my face and a scar from the lesion. I finally decided to consult Dr, Shanathala and get her opinion on whether I would ever be able to do anything to my face again. Call me crazy after what I went through, but at the end of the day, I am still a woman and aging concerns me like all of us. From the moment I walked in to her office, I felt the warmth and calm that she put out. She explained to me what happened to me and let me decide if I wanted to take things slow. I wanted her to do a little filler again, so after 45 minutes of her explaining everything to me, she did, even though I was terrified, and I was thrilled with the results, and I got the courage to do things to my face again with her help. Thank you Dr. Shanthala, For being a human being, for showing compassion, for being a professional, for listening, for being amazing at your job, for loving what you do, and loving your patients, for not cutting corners, for being patient and all around for being a beautiful person. Thank you

Dermasculpt Cannulas

Dr. Shanthala is also a certified in using Dermasculpt Cannulas for filler injections. The cannula is a soft, tiny alternative to using a needle, allowing the provider to inject filler with practically no pain or bruising for the patient. It also allows a single point of entry of an area for wider coverage and less sticks.

I love my lips. Recently Dr. Shanthala used Restylane Silk to enhance my lips. And it was virtually painless. First, Dr. Shanthala injects local anesthetic near the corners of your mouth. No complaints there! Then, using a cannula to inject the product, she places the Restylane Silk in the lips. A cannula has a blunt tip – no sharp needle – again, no complaints here! Actually a very pleasant experience. My lips are soft and smooth with just the right fullness. No trout pout here! Dr. Shanthala’s technique is driven by her professionalism and skill. The perfect combination to get excellent results. I love my lips. Disclaimer: I am a Registered Nurse who works with Shanthala at ShanthalaMD MedSpa.
