Boston Acne Scar Subcision Specialist MD

How Subcision Works?

Subcision is a minimally invasive procedure performed only by an MD at our clinic.  It begins with topical treatment and then lidocaine insufflation to numb the area. Then, the subcutaneous layers are accessed using the microcannula to release fibrotic scar tissue. Subcision effectively breaks fibrotic tethers between the subcutaneous fat and the dermis, elevating the scar and smoothing the skin surface. How often you need to treat acne scars?

Subcision typically requires several sessions to achieve optimal results. The exact number varies depending on the severity of the scarring and the individual’s skin condition. All the details will be discussed during your consultation process.

Subcision, combined with our LaserCoring and other comprehensive treatments, offers a powerful solution for improving the appearance of scars and achieving smoother, more youthful skin.

Can the Skin Retheter after?

Yes, it is possible for the skin to re-tether after subcision. To prevent this, Dr. Shanthala may recommend other adjuvant procedures, such as lasers or injecting dermal fillers or bio stimulators post-procedure, which helps maintain the elevation of the scar tissue, but it can still re-tether.

Should Lasers be performed Before Subcision?

Every scar and patient are different when it comes to what should be done first. Expertise, Knowledge of anatomy, and precision are the keys to Laser-Coring & Subcision. Laser treatments may be performed before subcision to prepare the skin, making targeting and treating scars easier. Complex scars need precise Laser-Coring before submission so that it is easier to address their shape and depth. Subcision can cause bruising and swelling and might impair the visibility of scar dimensions.

How Laser-Coring can benefit Acne Scars After Subcision?

Rolling or Depressed Acne scars can be treated with Subcision before UltraClear LaserCoring or CO2 or Fraxel laser. Dr. Shanthala also employs hydro dissection or microdissection to make more precise adjustments in smaller areas such as the Temples or Forehead.
